Fall 2016 Goals

Wednesday, September 28, 2016

In case you missed it, I wrote a list of summer goals and then posted an update at the end of summer after I successfully completed everything on my list! Since I had so much fun with this, I thought I would do this for the fall as well. However, I decided to rename it to seasonal goals as the term "bucket list" doesn't really make sense in this situation.

1. Go To a Farmers Market | This sounds easy enough but the nearest farmers market is actually two hours away so this is something that I will have to actually plan in advance. We will probably take a weekend trip to the city later in the fall and head there then!

2. Try 5 New Recipes | We have been eating out way too much lately, namely because we are sick of eating the same things at home all the time. Fall is such a great time to try a few new recipes because it makes me crave comfort food like soup and.. well, basically anything with gravy. If you have any recipe recommendations, I'd love to hear them, especially if they are for the slow cooker!

3. Have a Harry Potter Movie Marathon | Despite reading the book series multiple times, I've only seen most of the movies once (in the cinema when they were released). I am terrible at watching movies so this definitely won't happen all at once but the cozy weather makes me want to set up a pile of pillows and blankets, make a ton of snacks and re-watch the whole series.

4. Complete a DIY Project | I keep pinning cute DIY projects but never actually complete any. I'd like to make a wreath or some decorative pumpkins or even complete a gallery wall. I love these modern metallic pumpkins!

5. Join a Fitness Class | I successfully started this one as I joined zumba again.. then the instructor hurt her knee and has to remain off for at least six weeks! I am hoping to get back into it once classes start up again but in the meantime, I really want to try yoga. Anyone interested in joining me?

What is on your to-do list this fall? Leave a comment below!

Sunday Lately: September 19 - 25

Sunday, September 25, 2016

Sunday Lately is a weekly linkup hosted by the Blogger Tribe - KatyAngelicaMeghan and Nicole. Each week they present five new prompts to describe what is happening in your life that week. This weeks prompts are Planning, Loving, Reading, Wishing and Feeling.

Planning: I've got a few blog posts in mind and another started but to be honest, I've been very unmotivated for the past couple of weeks. As much as I enjoy blogging, it is just a hobby for me and it can be difficult to make time for it when I am also working full-time and trying to have a social life. Needless to say, it took the back burner for the past little while but I am hoping to get back on board with it ASAP!

Loving: My new Diane Von Furstenberg luggage set that I found at Winners last weekend. I was in the market for a new luggage set since Westjet accidentally destroyed my large suitcase during our trip to Punta Cana. I've always loved the Delsey "Chatelet" collection but cannot afford to drop that much money on luggage right now. While in Winners, I stumbled upon this similar-style lavender DVF set and fell in love. Like, serious heart-eye-emoticon love. I had a DVF luggage set in the past and it was great quality (sadly, my mother accidentally ran over one of the suitcases and destroyed it).  I really didn't want to spend that much money on this shopping trip but I couldn't resist the opportunity so I picked up the medium and large suitcases (I always use this as my carry on!). I also picked up the cutest marble coasters and now I want to redecorate my entire house.

Reading: I'm currently reading "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert but I'm not super into it yet. I'm hoping that it will interest me more as I continue reading but I think it's time for me to take a break from the self-help/motivational books and read a couple fiction novels for a change.

Wishing: To win the lottery, quite honestly! (But who doesn't wish that?) I get tired of things quickly so I'm ready for a new house, wardrobe, and also a six-month vacation. I hate that we don't have any trips booked and we have no idea when we will even be traveling again.

Feeling: Thankful that tonight is my last night shift for the weekend! Also thankful for great co-workers that make work fun.

What are you up to this weekend? Leave a comment below!

Summer Bucket List Update

Wednesday, September 21, 2016

Now that summer is basically over, I decided that it was time to take a look back at my Summer 2016 Bucket List and see whether or not I was successful in crossing off those items. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I completed all that I set out to do!

Go Hiking | I didn't do as much hiking as I wanted to this summer, but I will consider this a win as I did hike the Skerwink Trail again. It nearly killed me the first time I did it a few years ago (granted, I had no desire to hike back then) and I am pleased to say that I enjoyed it the second time around. Verdict: Complete!

A photo posted by Janine (@janineallison) on

Try Five New Restaurants | I was so close to writing this one off, as we only tried four new restaurants, right up until Sunday. I probably would have tried five earlier except that I won a gift certificate to The Fifth Ticket (read my review here!) so we ate there twice this summer. We also ate at the Two Whales Coffee Shop (review here), the Skipper's Restaurant (lobster rolls, yes!), the Random Passage Tearoom and, as of last weekend, Milestones Bar and Grill. Verdict: Completed (and enjoyed them all!).

Read, Read, Read | I'm actually pleased with the amount that I've read this summer, even though it was only three books. I completed "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" by JK Rowling (review here), "#GIRLBOSS" by Sophia Amoruso, and "Confess" by Colleen Hoover. I'm fine with averaging one book a month, now I need to try and keep it up! Verdict: Complete!

A photo posted by Janine (@janineallison) on

Go Fishing | I went fishing twice and caught a handful of fish during my second trip. This is one of my favourite summer activities and I'm sad I didn't get to do it more but it's difficult to coordinate schedules and the weather often hampered our plans. Verdict: Complete!

A photo posted by Janine (@janineallison) on

Go Camping.. In a Tent! | Jordan and I, along with our friends Matt and Brittany, successfully crossed this one off the list at the beginning of the summer. In hindsight, we should have waited until it was warmer in the evenings as we nearly froze to death, but it was a good experience and I can finally say I've slept in a tent. Verdict: Complete!

A photo posted by Janine (@janineallison) on

Take a Weekend Trip | We actually ended up taking a surprise week-long trip to the Dominican Republic (speaking of, I meant to do a post on that..)! The timing worked in our favour and we were worried that Jordan's schooling would prevent us from going on a trip this fall so we booked it on a whim. I didn't think I would enjoy traveling down south in the dead of summer but it was actually wonderful! Verdict: Complete.. and then some!

A photo posted by Janine (@janineallison) on

Overall, I think my summer bucket list was a success, having completed all six items. While many of the items on my list are things that I probably would have done anyway, it was a nice little motivational push knowing that I could check them off at the end of the summer. It also encouraged us to go out and try new restaurants and activities, which is a bonus!

Did you complete any bucket list items this summer? I'd love to hear about it! Also, keep an eye out for my fall bucket list which will be posted soon!

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick Review

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick Review

Make Up For Ever recently launched their new Artist Rouge lipstick collection, featuring 45 show-stopping shades in a variety of cream and matte finishes. There are 14 matte shades and 31 cream shades in the collection and the colors range from traditional reds and pinks to mint green, turquoise, and lilac. The Make Up For Ever team was kind enough to send me two lipsticks from their new collection to review and share with you guys.

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick Review

First of all, the packaging is super sleek and simple. The lipsticks are in a black matte bullet with the finish and the color number on the bottom. However, if you have many of these, I feel like you would either need to memorize the numbers or have to pull the cover off to check the color. Personally, I prefer when lipsticks are named similar to their color, or at least have a color swatch on the bottom of the tube. I do think that these look very professional though. The inside of the tube is silver on the bottom with "Make Up For Ever" embossed. The cover snaps onto to the tube securely which means that I don't have to worry about it falling off in my purse!

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick Review

The formula of these lipsticks is amazing. They contain both macadamia and mallow oil, which leaves your lips super moisturized. Even the matte formula feels incredibly comfortable to wear and not drying at all! Make Up For Ever states that the cream formula can get 8 hours of wear, while the matte can provide 10 hours, however, I have to disagree with this. I can get about 2-3 hours of wear without touching up, however, I find that it begins to fade after that, as well as after eating or drinking. The color does fade nicely and evenly on the lips, however, which is a perk.

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick Review

The lipstick itself has a unique tear-shaped tip which is designed for easy application of the product, no matter your lip shape. I can say that it works effectively as the lipstick was easy to apply without making a mess, even without lip liner. The pigmentation of these lipsticks is also incredible, with 25% more pigment than the last generation of the Rouge Artist Intense lipsticks.

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick M300 C302

I received the colors C302 (beige coral) and M300 (red orange). I wasn't sure about the salmon-pink C302 at first because it seems a bit pale on my lips in person but after swatching it and taking a photo, I actually like it. It would make a nice spring color. The second color, M300 is not a color I would choose for myself and unfortunately, the orange undertones in this lipstick do not agree with my coloring. I will be passing this one along to a friend but only because the color isn't for me, as I love the formula!

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick Review M300 C302

  • Sleek and secure packaging
  • Excellent color range
  • Extremely comfortable formula
  • High pigmentation
  • Unique shaped tip for easy application

  • Wear time is about 2-3 hours before needing touch-ups
  • Unable to determine shade from outside of lipstick tube (without memorizing numbers)

Overall, I would recommend picking up these lipsticks to try (especially the matte formula) if you are looking for a comfortable, moisturizing lipstick. If you are looking for something long-lasting, I would skip these. Be sure to leave a comment below and let me know if you've tried the new Artist Rouge lipstick line!

The Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge lipstick retails for $27 and is available exclusively at Sephora online and in Sephora stores across Canada and the U.S.

The products in this post were provided complimentary for review purposes. This is not a sponsored post. All opinions are honest and based on my personal experience.

What I'm Buying This Fall

Monday, September 12, 2016

1. Kate Spade Monterrey Watch | 2. Gap 1969 Flare Jeans | 3. J. Crew Downtown Field Jacket | 4. American Eagle Soft Boyfriend Shirt | 5. Call It Spring "Kokes" | 6. Old Navy Marled Cocoon Open-Front Sweater

Fall is my favourite season of all (except it means that we are one season closer to the dreaded winter) and I look forward to it every year. I love everything from the fall foliage to pumpkin-flavoured everything but I especially love fall fashion. Although I haven't gone "back to school" for the past four years, I get an itch every September to buy a few new outfits. I probably should have been a teacher because at least then I could have justified it!

1. I'm actually not in the market for a new watch as I already own this gorgeous Fossil watch. However, I stumbled upon this Kate Spade watch and I fell in love. Is there a watch more suited to me? I don't think so. I love the simple leather band and the blue second hand but I especially love the "I need a vacation" on the time face. Mainly because I always need a vacation.

2. As much as I love skinny jeans and boots in the fall, I really want a new style of jeans for a change. I love how flared jeans make my legs look a mile long! I haven't owned a pair for a few years but I just ordered these Gap jeans for a steal at less than $40 and I really hope that they fit.

3. I have been wanting a military-style jacket for ages now and I fell in love with this one the moment I seen it. Even better, it's marked down with an additional 30% off using code "SHOPSTYLE". I actually slept on it before biting the bullet and ordering it because I really don't need another jacket but I love how versatile this style it. Because of the reviews, I ordered a size larger than I normally would so I am praying that it fits!

4. The plaid button-up shirt is a quintessential fall staple and I have been living in them recently. I love the colors in this one and it would be perfect for Christmas as well. These shirts are so easy to throw on with jeans and boots and are also great for lounging around the house when paired with leggings.

5. If only Spring accepted gift cards online, these babies would probably already be in my possession. I am hoping that they have them in store the next time I am there so I can try them on. If they are comfortable, I will definitely be adding them to my collection!

6. Fall is the season for cozy sweaters and this affordable option from Old Navy is definitely on my to-buy list. I love pairing long cardigans with v-neck tees and boots for days when the weather is chilly but not too cold.

Sephora Favorites "Give Me Some Lip" Review

Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Lip Review

I love all of the Sephora Favorites kits but the "Give Me Some Lip" kits are always my absolute favourite. As soon as I seen this one online, I asked Jordan to buy it for me for Christmas. Last year I asked for the kit for Christmas as well but it sold out before he ordered it, so I gave him lots of advance warning this time! However, he decided to give it to me for my birthday instead of Christmas, which is great because I can review it now while you may be able to get it. It is sold out on the Sephora website, however, may still be available in store. If not, there is going to be a bold set released for the holidays which may interest some of you!

Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Lip Review

This year's "Give Me Some Lip" kit featured two full-size and four deluxe-sized products, all in a neutral/nude color scheme. It retailed for $28 US/$33 CAD which is amazing considering the value of all the products. Keep reading for swatches as well as my thoughts on each of the products!

Sephora Favourites Give Me Some Lip Swatches
Left to right: Lancome Juicy Shaker in "Boom Meringue", Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in "Rosé", Nars Satin Lip Pencil in "Rikugien" (ignore my upside down "Nars", oops!)

Lancome Juicy Shaker in "Boom Meringue"
6.5ml / 0.22fl oz (full size) Value: $28
Of all the products, this was the one that intrigued me the most. However, I really didn't want to pay $28 for what is essentially just a lip oil. I love the cocktail-shaker packaging and the sweet lemony-cream scent. The applicator has the strangest, squishy tip, but I actually love it. The product itself is much as I expected in that it provides little-to-no color payoff, however, it leaves a non-sticky high-gloss shine and feels super comfortable to wear. I wouldn't pay $28 to buy another one but I will happily use this one!

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rosé
2.2g / 0.08oz | Value: $14.32
I actually already owned a sample of this product that I received in a Christmas kit one year. However, it is one of my favourite lip balms and I use it all the time while I am at work. It feels super moisturizing, smell delicious (like lemon!) and leaves a gorgeous tint of color on the lips. I would have liked to try this in a different color but I am happy to have a backup.

Nars Satin Lip Pencil in "Rikugien"
1.7g / 0.05oz | Value: $28.05
Most people will recognize this lip pencil as one half of the Sephora birthday gift last year. However, I missed out on that gift so I was happy to receive this in my kit! I love the creamy satin texture of this pencil and it is the perfect my-lips-but-better color. I've heard some people complain about this color making them look washed out but it definitely works for those of us with fair complexions.

Sephora Favourites Give Me Some Lip Swatches
Left to right: Kat Von D Studded Kiss in "Lovecraft", Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipstick in "Melted Chihuahua", Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick in "Stepped Out"
Kat Von D Studded Kiss in "Lovecraft"
1.2g / 0.04oz | Value: $10.40
I was worried about this one as I tried one of these lipsticks before and hated the texture. However, I am happy to report that I had no problems with the texture of this lipstick! It is a matte formula but applied easily without pulling. It is described as a "mauve pink nude" and that is definitely true. It was also quite comfortable to wear, despite being a matte formula.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in "Chihuahua"
5ml / 0.16fl oz | Value: $10.42
I was excited to give this color a try until I swatched it.. and realized that I already own this color. And I don't like it. Ugh! Had I known, I would have saved this and used it for a giveaway or something but if any of my friends would like to take a once-swatched product off my hands, go for it. I'm not the biggest fan of the formula of these lipsticks to begin with but it's the color that I really don't enjoy. It's described as a "dusty mauve" but it just looks like a sickly pinkish-brown on me.

Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick in "Stepping Out"
4ml / 0.14fl oz (full size) | Value: $28
I was pleasantly surprised by this lipstick! I'm a huge fan of liquid lipstick anyway but this one really impressed me. I love the packaging and the doe-foot applicator. The texture of the lipstick is moussey and dries down super quickly. Once it dries, good luck trying to budge it! It was even a bit difficult to remove with a makeup wipe, so I have no doubt that this is long-lasting. The color isn't my favourite, as it's a bit too brown for my liking, but I will probably wear it during the fall regardless. I am definitely tempted to pick up more of these in some other colors!

Sephora Favourites Give Me Some Lip Swatches
Top to bottom: Lancome Juicy Shaker in "Boom Meringue", Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in "Rosé", Nars Satin Lip Pencil in "Rikugien", Kat Von D Studded Kiss in "Lovecraft", Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipstick in "Melted Chihuahua", Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick in "Stepped Out"

Considering that the total value of this kit is approximately $120 CAD, I think it was definitely worth the $33! While this particular set contained all nude-colored items, I think there was a good variety of products and textures. Be sure to check your local store if you are interested and if not, keep an eye out for the next "Give Me Some Lip" set which will cater to those who love a bolder lip!

Do you like the Sephora Favourites kits? Did you pick up this one or try any of these products? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Product Empties: Volume 4

Wednesday, September 7, 2016

These are the products that I used up during the months of July and August. I used 9 full-size products and 4 travel or sample size products, so I am quite happy with that.

Bath and Body Works Gentle Foaming Soap in "Sunlight and Apple Trees" | Unsurprisingly, this soap smelled of apples. It isn't one of my favourite scents but I tend to use fruity soaps in the kitchen, which is what I purchased this one for. Repurchase? Probably not, it isn't a favourite.

Bath and Body Works Gentle Foaming Soap in "Nectarine Sun Tea" | This soap smelled of oranges, which I actually really enjoyed. It wasn't overpowering or sickly, as some B&BW scents tend to be. Repurchase? Yes.

Tressa Watercolors Violet Wash Shampoo | This is my favourite purple shampoo as it works the best at maintaining my blonde hair color of all the purple shampoos that I've tried. This is probably my second or third bottle - I love it that much! I use this regularly, probably 3-4 times a week but the bottle lasts me a long time. Repurchase? Yes, I received a new bottle for my birthday.

Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream | I loved the texture and smell of this product and also how it made my skin feel. However, I think it is too thick for everyday use, especially as my skin tends to be more normal-oily than dry. I highly recommend trying this if you have dry skin though! Repurchase? Not right now, as it isn't suited to my skin type.

Herbal Essences Dry Shampoo in "Color Me Happy" | I loved the scent of this (though it can be cloying in the typical Herbal Essences way) but it was totally ineffective as a dry shampoo. I've tried the orange Herbal Essences dry shampoo before and that one worked better, but this one did nothing for my hair. Repurchase? No.

Becca Backlight Priming Filter | I'd like to try another sample of this because I really liked it, but I'm not sure if it's worth the steep price tag. This sample only provided enough for two uses, so it was hard to form a definite opinion. It feels nice on the skin and absolutely makes your skin glow  (without looking like a disco ball), I'm just not sure if it made my foundation last any longer than usual. I am so tempted to order it from Sephora and give it a proper try. Repurchase? I think I want to purchase a full size. Has anyone tried it?

Onyx 100% Pure Acetone Nail Polish Remover | I've had this forever, but I'm not particular on my nail polish removers. I usually just buy whatever is on sale at the time. This one worked fine and I think it was cheap but honestly, it's so old that I'm not even sure if they make it anymore. Repurchase? If the price is right.

Soft Soap Shea Butter Body Wash | I got this in my stocking for Christmas last year and I finally used it this summer. The scent was nice and light and I loved the exfoliating beads during the summer season. The bottle was huge, though, so I was happy to switch it up after I finished this one. Repurchase? Maybe, for a change from my B&BW body washes.

Lancome Primer | The girls at the Sephora store tossed this sample in my bag the last time I was there, however, the description only said "Lancome Primer" so I think it is the LA Base Pro Perfecting Makeup Primer based on the reviews and product description. This primer applied like a dream and made my foundation look amazing. However, I'm not sure that it made my foundation last any longer than usual, which is a necessity for me when I buy primer (especially at this price!). Again, I'd love to have another sample and give it an extended try. Repurchase? If it extended the wear time of my foundation, probably.

Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub | I've been using this since high school and I think it's an effective, affordable option for a facial scrub. It contains salicylic acid which is also great for keeping breakouts away. I didn't repurchase this because I wanted to try the Origins GinZing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser and I was also worried about the beads in the Biore scrub. However, according to this, the beads are not plastic (and therefore not harmful to the environment). Repurchase? Probably!

Origins Clear Improvement Mask | I got 3-4 uses out of this travel-sized mask, which is great! I loved how it dried on my face and really felt like it was sucking the gunk out of my skin. However, my skin is generally normal and I rarely get zits, so I'm not sure how effective it actually is at clearing your skin. I think I just need a mask to help brighten my complexion rather than combat bad skin. Repurchase? I will likely try other Origins masks but I don't think this one is suited to my skin.

Dove Go Sleeveless Anti-Perspirant | This is my all-time favourite deodorant. I love how it feels on my skin, it is effective, and it smells great. Repurchase? Yes!

NYX HD Concealer | This product is super affordable, creamy, and long-lasting. I'm not sure what else to say about it, other than the fact that is is my holy grail concealer. Repurchase? Yes, I already have.

Have you tried any of these products? I'd love to know if you love them or hate them!

Monthly Favourites: August 2016

Monday, September 5, 2016

I am a few days late on this post because even though I realized August was ending, it didn't occur to me to post my favourites for the month. That's what happens when your birthday and the last long holiday weekend of the summer fall at the end of August, oops!

Song: I feel like I didn't listen to a lot of music in August which is strange for me. However, these were the songs that I enjoyed the most! "Setting The World on Fire" by Kenny Chesney and Pink, "Hey Child" by Korbee, and "Forever Young"  by Jack Eye Jones. I feel like these three songs are the perfect end-of-summer songs.

Read: I mentioned in a previous post that I read and loved "#GIRLBOSS" by Sophia Amoruso. Definitely recommend it if you are a creative person who loves a good inspirational "rags to riches" story. I'm currently reading "Confession" by Colleen Hoover and I am also loving this book. I'm about halfway through and making an effort to read a little each night before bed. However, it's so good that I struggle to stop reading and go to sleep!

TV Show or Movie: I've been binge-watching Hart of Dixie all month as I only watched the first two seasons when it was on TV. Even though it is super cheesy, I love this show. I'm pretty sure I was meant to live down south. Also, I am really going to miss seeing Wade (Wilson Bethel) on my TV every day.

Beauty Product: I received Colour Pop "Lumiere" as one of my birthday gifts and I am obsessed. Such a pretty mauve-y pink color that works for summer or fall. The Marc Jacobs lipstick that was included in the Sephora birthday gift is also gorgeous.

Food: It seems that all summer I've been loving fresh cod fish boiled in the pot with salt beef, potatoes and onion. This year was the first time I've tried it and I could honestly eat it every week. It sounds gross but I swear, it's so good!

Because this was my birthday month, I feel like I didn't purchase much for myself. I did place a Sephora order but in all honestly, I still haven't tried all of the products yet! One of my favourite birthday items is the Sephora "Give Me Some Lip" kit (sold out, unfortunately) because I love being able to sample a bunch of different products.

What are you loving this month? Leave a comment below!

Sunday Lately: August 29 - September 4

Sunday, September 4, 2016

Sunday Lately is a weekly linkup hosted by the Blogger Tribe - KatyAngelicaMeghan and Nicole. Each week they present five new prompts to describe what is happening in your life that week. This weeks prompts are Creating, Finding, Switching, Forgetting and Craving.

Creating: I was productive this week and took photos for two upcoming posts, however, I still have to do swatches and write the actual posts. My August Favourites post should be up tomorrow as well, and I have another collaboration with Make Up For Ever which will hopefully be live within the next week or two.

Finding: That my obsession with nude lipstick is out of control. Actually, just lipstick in general. I counted 21 that I've acquired in the past month alone! Granted, most of them were birthdays gifts but still. I desperately need to do a makeup purge!

Switching: I've been switching out my shorts and tank tops for plaid shirts and boots, thanks to the cool weather that we've been having lately. It is supposed to warm up again tomorrow so I guess it will be back to summer clothes for a few more days but I suspect it will soon be tucked away for good. I also need to switch my wallet over to my new Kate Spade one that I received for my birthday as I haven't done that yet!

Forgetting: I'm already forgetting (and missing) warm summer days. Last night we had a fire and it was so cold that we could see our breath in the air outside and there is a frost warning for tonight! For any of you cold-weather lovers, you need to move here ASAP.

A photo posted by Janine (@janineallison) on

Craving: This weekend we had both a deep fried turkey as well as a roasted turkey with vegetables which are two things that I have been craving lately. Tonight we are making homemade sushi because it has been a while since we had it last!

27th Birthday Haul

Friday, September 2, 2016

I honestly debated whether or not to even post this because I didn't want to seem like I was bragging or showing off, so let me preface this by saying: I did not ask for these gifts! I just so happen to have an amazing boyfriend and family who like to spoil me. I kept telling Jordan to stop buying me gifts but he honestly loves giving them, so what's a girl to do? Also, watching haul videos (especially Christmas and birthday hauls) just so happens to be one of my favourite things to do so I figure there has to be other people out there like myself.

I was most shocked to receive this gift because Jordan had already given me a Kate Spade passport holder prior to our trip. Apparently he had already bought the bag before I purchased my Rebecca Minkoff bag but knew that I wouldn't use it as an "every day" bag anyway, as it's quite small. I also have to figure out how to downsize my current wallet to fit everything into this one! I knew I was getting the phone case because I picked it out at Winners (half price!) but the earrings were also a surprise.

These Sam Edelman "Penny" boots are actually the only thing I had on my birthday wishlist. I've been wanting them for years now and found them for a great price a couple months ago (a lot less than the $200+ they are right now!), so I asked Jordan to get them for me for my birthday. The jacket was also one that I tried on and liked sometime last year but didn't buy. I was in dire need of a long jacket for Fall/Spring because a lot of my cardigans are longer than my other jackets. The quilted pattern and hood just make it perfect!

Naturally, I received hoards of makeup. Jordan had asked me to make a ColourPop wishlist and I mentioned that I wanted "Mother" by Kat Von D and the Sephora Favourites "Give Me Some Lip" kit (but I asked for that as a Christmas gift). I didn't realize until I unwrapped my gifts that basically everything I asked for was a nude-pink shade, oops! I'll post swatches of the ColourPop items as well as the Sephora Favourites set soon. The mini Kat Von D liquid lipstick in "Lolita 2" was actually a free sample but I added it in the picture anyway.

I also received a bunch of hair care products from Jordan and his sister. My favourite purple shampoo, as well as a clarifying and a moisturizing shampoo, a detangling spray, travel size bottles of my favourite hairspray, and a mini wet brush (the full size is one of my favourite purchases of this year).

Finally, the miscellaneous items! A magnifying lighted mirror for applying makeup, a book, and a new coffee tea mug for work. I also received a tank top and a shirt from Jordan's sister but I was wearing them the day that I took these photos. I received money from family which I will probably put that towards some new clothes or a pair of booties for Fall.

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already seen that Jordan also gave me an amazing Sephora cake for my birthday. I was amazed at the attention to detail in the work - even the "eyeshadows" were textured or sparkly.

I didn't have any big birthday plans this year, which may be a symptom of aging, hah! Jordan asked me if I wanted to go out for supper but I said I would rather order in chinese food and watch Netflix in my PJs so that's what we did and I couldn't have asked for a better birthday!
